The Kenosha Water Utility is currently conducting city wide sump pump inspections and residential cross connection surveys. The purpose of these programs is to ensure that all homes and businesses are in compliance with the ordinances that govern them.
In many areas of Kenosha, the sanitary sewer system becomes overburdened, or surcharged, during and after major rain events. When this happens, excess flow into the sanitary sewer system can lead to back-ups of sewage into basements. One contributor to this is improperly connected sump pumps. The cost of treating the additional flow is considerable.
At the same time as your sump pump inspection we will also be conducting a residential Cross Connection Control Survey. Unprotected cross connections could potentially contaminate the water in your home as well as the city's drinking water. A Cross Connection Control Survey is an inventory of every point of water use throughout your property, i.e. faucets, toilets, hose bibs, irrigation systems, etc.
Please note that if you received only a "Commercial Cross Connection Control Survey Letter", you MUST call a licensed plumber to complete the inspection by the due date.
Our intent is to inspect every customer for compliance in order to avoid future basement flooding and sewer surcharging, as well as protect the city's drinking water.
